CRITIQUE GROUP
WWW critique group meets each Tuesday evening from 6 - 9 p.m. at First Evangelical Free Church, 820 North 30th Street, Colorado Springs, CO. (Corner of 30th & Fontanero. Parking is off of Fontanero. Enter through double glass doors off the parking lot on lower level.) Click here for map.
Bring 3 copies of up to 10 pages of your work, double spaced, 12pt font in Courier or Courier New, one inch margins all the way around. If you are unsure of how to format this way, don't let that stop you. Bring what you have, and we can help you.

Worship Write Witness (WWW) meets the first Saturday of each month from 1 - 3 p.m. at Mardel Christian Books, 5964 Barnes Rd (NE corner of Powers and Barnes), in Colorado Springs. We are happy to have you attend up to two meetings if you want to check us out before joining.

January 5th - Carlos Sanchez
Topic: Body Language
Addressing Your Audience with NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) -- A seminar for Public Speakers, Story Tellers, Novel Writers, Novel Readers, Book Publishers, and anyone who address an audience. Neuro meaning to process information through the senses, Linguistic deals with both verbal and nonverbal patterns of communication, Programming refers to the reader of a novel that takes place by presenting the material in their world of reality. NLP is a new and exciting approach to understanding and communicating with readers of written material.
Bio: Carlos Sanchez was born in Mexico and moved to the United States at age fourteen. He spent 26 years in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he earned a degree in Psychology, was a Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor, aviation support and logistics, aviation maintenance, organizational development consultant, Navy Recruiter, Career Counselor, and master instructor. Carlos graduated from the U.S. Navy Organizational Effectiveness School where he was certified in the Neuro Linguistic Programming, and has facilitated numerous NLP workshops for law enforcement, correctional officer, mental health, Department of Defense Schools, Department of Youth Corrections, and religious organizations. After retiring, from the Navy, Carlos discovered a new career in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff then becoming a correctional officer for the Department of Youth Corrections. Carlos is now retired from the Department of Youth Corrections, and is a private pilot.

March 2nd - Greg Johnson, President, WordServe Literary Group
Topic: How to Wow Any Agent
The 10 Secrets to making this your last year as an unagented author
Bio: Greg Johnson has been in publishing for nearly 25 years. Before becoming a full-time literary agent in 1994, he wrote and published 20 works of nonfiction with traditional publishers, as well as being a magazine editor for a teenage boys magazine for five years. In his years as an agent, he has personally represented more than 2,100 books and negotiated more than 1,700 contracts to over 85 publishing houses. These works included adult trade books (non-fiction and fiction), children’s books, specialty Bibles, movie options, video curricula, audio products, gift books and greeting cards.
While Greg’s stable of authors is near full, he will occassionally take on new authors and new projects. In 2012 he negotiated publishing deals for 12 new authors. Along with representing a broad array of adult fiction, primarily in the Christian market, Greg works with pastors and speakers, male and female, who have important and compelling messages to author for their constituents. He has also carved a niche by representing military nonfiction/memior for those who have served our country from WWII until today. Business books, health and humor rounds out what he is looking to acquire.
Greg is married to Becky and together they are parents of six adult children and five grandsons under the age of 7. They make their home near Denver, Colo.
April 6th - Write-in (note different location and time)
Like sit-ins of the past, we protest blank pages and write…or edit or organize or plot. It is an encouraging time and a great way to make progress on your current project.
Come and Write, Write, Write. Bring your laptop, pen and paper, stone tablet and chisel, or whatever your favorite writing apparatus is, and Write. The goal is to write on your WIP (Work In Progress). Write as much and as fast as you can in a quiet atmosphere. Or work on editing or outlining your WIP. If you don't have a current project, still come and write. If you want to brainstorm with others, we can find a room for that too.
Hot and cold water will be provided. Some snacks will be provided. There is a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and stove available for your use. And we have internet access.
This will be held at: First Evangelical Free Church, 820 North 30th Street, Colorado Springs, CO. We will meet from 1 - 4 p.m.
May 4th - Carla Laureano, author
Topic: Finding Your Niche
“What’s your book about?” That single question can strike fear into the heart of even the most outgoing writer. But without knowing what our books are really about, authors cannot effectively connect with readers or market our work.
This workshop will take you through a series of exercises designed to help you get to the heart of your fiction, from the moral premise that directs your work to the built-in topics that will help you connect with and market to niche audiences. Whether you’re already marketing multiple books or just establishing your platform, “Finding Your Niche” will guide you towards finding the unique perspective that sets your work apart from the countless others on the shelf.
Bio: Carla Laureano holds a degree in English from Pepperdine University and has worked in sales and marketing within a variety of industries, including medical device manufacturing and motivational speaking. In 2011, she founded Instant IQ Media & Consulting to help small businesses and professionals grow their reach and market themselves more effectively.
Carla writes inspirational fantasy and romance, and she was recently selected as a finalist in ACFW’s 2012 Genesis contest. She is the vice-president of ACFW's South Denver chapter, Mile High Scribes. She also serves as a member of ACFW Colorado's publicity and marketing Dot Com committee.

September 7th - Robert Liparulo, author of the Dreamhouse Kings series and The 13th Tribe
Topic: How to Write a Book Series
Bio: Best-selling novelist Robert Liparulo is a former journalist, with over a thousand articles and multiple writing awards to his name.
His first two critically acclaimed thrillers, Comes a Horseman and Germ, were optioned by Hollywood producers. Bestselling author Michael Palmer calls Deadfall, released in November, 2007, “a brilliantly crafted thriller.” Best-selling authors Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, endorsed his newest book, The 13th Tribe, which was released in 2012. He is currently working with director Andrew Davis (The Fugitive, The Guardian) on the novel and screenplay of a political thriller. Topic: How to Properly Format Your Manuscript for Submission
Copy and layout editors are frustrated and overwhelmed with formatting errors. It takes hours to fix these errors. Get on the editor's good side by properly formatting your manuscript. Having proper formatting in place as you write will save everyone time and headaches. Also, proper formatting will help your eBook look professional. In this workshop, we will go over common formatting error and how to fix them. Bring your laptop and work on your manuscript as we go through the fixes.
Bio: Mary Davis is an award-winning author of a dozen novels in both historical and contemporary themes, two novellas, two compilations, and one short story. She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, is the president of ACFW's Colorado Springs chapter, Worship Write Witness, and is active in two critique groups. She won ACFW’s Carol Book of the Year award in 2008 for her historical novella, Love Notes.
